Measure hinge and lock locations

Step-by-step guide

1. 1Confirm whether the opening is new construction or a replacement.
2. 2For a replacement, measure hinge locations from the stated top reference to the top of each hinge preparation.
3. 3Measure the lock centerline from the same stated reference and record the reference used.
4. 4Do not mix edge, centerline, and top-of-preparation measurements; submit a photo when uncertain.

Replacement doors and frames must match the existing hinge and lock preparations. The reference point matters. Record where each measurement begins, whether the value is to a top edge or centerline, and provide photos when the existing preparation is unclear.
